In the course of over thirty-five years of practice, Mr. Lerman has served as counsel in the acquisition and sale of radio and television properties, and has participated in several of the largest transactions in the history of the radio industry. Mr. Lerman also has expertise in the representation of broadcast stations in all areas of FCC regulation, and has handled many cases involving governmental intrusion into content and other First Amendment-related issues.
On behalf of radio and television station owners, he has negotiated employment agreements with on-air talent and executives, as well as professional sports broadcast rights transactions, and has handled various equal employment opportunity related matters, including investigations and dispute resolution. He has also represented on-air talent and has negotiated syndication arrangements for such performers.
His clients have included several of the largest radio companies in the U.S., two of the national broadcast television networks, the two largest radio syndication companies, the flagship station of the Public Broadcasting Service and nationally syndicated radio talk show talent.
Mr. Lerman has also served as a Member of the Boards of Directors of three major, publicly-traded companies in the radio industry, Infinity Broadcasting Corporation (1992-1996), Premiere Radio Networks, Inc. (1993-1995) and Westwood One, Inc. (1995-2007), and as a member of Westwood’s Audit Committee.
Mr. Lerman also has participated on several panels at broadcast industry conventions and has conducted numerous seminars on various regulatory topics with broadcast organizations. He was a member of the FCBA Committee on Professional Responsibility from 1989-1991.
Mr. Lerman is Vice President-Development and Director of the Middle Atlantic Regional Advisory Board of the University of Pennsylvania, Chair of the Middle Atlantic Scholarship Initiative, a Member of the Committee on Undergraduate Financial Aid at the University of Pennsylvania, and founder of several financial aid scholarships at the University of Pennsylvania and a merit scholarship at George Washington University Law School. He also serves on the Dean's Advisory Board of George Washington University Law School.
Mr. Lerman was designated a “Super Lawyer” in 2007 by Washington, DC Super Lawyers Magazine.
From 1972-1985, he was an associate and later a partner in the firm McKenna, Wilkinson & Kittner.
