Mr. Hildebrandt has practiced communications and media law, as both outside and in-house counsel for major media companies, for over thirty years. His primary expertise is counseling broadcasting businesses on the practical legal challenges of their day-to-day operations. This practice includes counseling and negotiating in the areas of talent and programming contracts, defamation, invasion of privacy, employment, intellectual property, marketing and promotion, station acquisitions and divestitures, federal and state regulatory issues, and day-to-day legal problem solving.
Mr. Hildebrandt began his legal career in private practice in Washington, DC, developing an expertise in federal regulation of the broadcasting industry, and representing clients on regulatory and legislative matters before the FCC and the Congress. In 1982, Mr. Hildebrandt became in-house counsel for Westinghouse Broadcasting Corporation in New York City and counseled its radio stations, television stations, and cable systems on a variety of legal matters.
In 1985, Mr. Hildebrandt was asked to return to Washington, DC to become Chief Counsel for Regulatory and Legislative Affairs for Westinghouse Broadcasting and its Group W Radio and Television subsidiaries. He has since held a variety of senior legal positions at Westinghouse, CBS and Infinity Broadcasting, including Chief Counsel of Group W Television, Associate General Counsel of CBS, and Vice President and General Counsel of Infinity Radio. He is currently Vice President of CBS Radio, Inc. and Of Counsel to the firm.
Mr. Hildebrandt has presented numerous seminars on legal issues facing broadcasters at industry conventions, bar association meetings and private company and station gatherings.
